Welcome to Kinross Primary School. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all new families and to congratulate you on your decision to move to Kinross and enrol your children in our school. We are proud to say that Kinross Primary School enjoys a quality reputation in the community and we intend to maintain that reputation throughout 2013 by providing a quality learning program with a focus on instruction and enhanced learning outcomes for students. We care and we take the responsibility of providing a high quality education in a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment for your child very seriously. In 2011, the school community successfully gained Independent Public School status for 2013 onwards.  The Independent Public Schools initiative hands greater control to schools.  In collaboration with their school community, Independent Public Schools set their own strategic directions, have authority for day-to-day decision making and are in an ideal position to make decisions that best cater for their students. Parents and community members have an important and enhanced role in this initiative. This opportunity has also initiated a change in the school uniform shirt, which will be phased in over the year.

In order to operate with more autonomy, Independent Public Schools are afforded a number of flexibilities. This means that they can select staff, manage their financial affairs though a one line budget, select school development day dates, approve leave applications, determine the curriculum that best supports students’ needs, as well as manage school utilities (electricity, water, gas and waste management) and faults (breakdowns and repairs). Some groups of Independent Public Schools work as a cluster, which enables them to effectively combine ideas and resources to create even greater flexibilities across their group.  Although they are called Independent Public Schools, these schools remain part of the public school system.
