Adelaide Schools introduces Hurstbridge Learning Co-operative in Hurstbridge, for all your education and learning for your childs future, We invite you to explore and learn more about the quality 21st Century education with Hurstbridge Learning Co-operative.
The Hurstbridge Learning Co-operative is a parent run, alternative school for primary aged children.
In 1973 the Learning Co-operative was set up by a group of Diamond Valley and Eltham parents as an alternative to the education systems available then at Primary level. Collaborating closely with education innovators from Latrobe University, this new concept of a ‘Learning Co-operative’ emerged.
Initially the Co-op operated at St Helena. In 1977, with financial assistance from the Federal Government, the Co-op shifted to its current site and also received full registration as a school. The buildings were purpose-built to suit the Co-operative’s requirements and have been added to over the last 30 years.
The Co-operative is wholly responsible for the teaching and administration of the school. The Co-op is a community of families committed to providing the resources needed to create a more stimulating alternative to the classroom. We believe that every member of the community can contribute to the learning and raising of its children. Enrolments are kept to a ceiling of thirty children. The intimate size of the Co-op creates a community much like an extended family.
Steeped in history, Hurstbridge Learning Co-operative is one of the popular school in the Hurstbridge area. Our aim is clear and present in all aspects of the school. Respect, Compassion and Resilience are some of the qualities demonstrated towards the personal attributes we strive to gain and display in our community.
We endeavour to celebrate each other’s uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
