Towradgi PS works closely with the whole school community to provide a quality education for all in a supportive and caring environment. We learn and grow together and inspire students to value safety, respect and responsibility in order to achieve their personal best. Students at our school experience safe, happy and settled classroom and playground environments where positive behaviours are expected and rewarded. Our school is located five kilometres north of Wollongong City and is situated on a large level site with an expansive playground. We currently have six mainstream classes and three support units at our school. Towradgi Public School has a wonderful team of talented and dedicated teachers who work with students to achieve excellent results in a creative, innovative and technology rich learning environment. All students and teachers have outstanding access to the latest technology in order to support teaching and learning. This includes interactive whiteboards, AppleTV, document cameras and desktop computers in every classroom, a comprehensive computer lab and a mobile lab of laptops available for use in all classrooms, wireless internet across the school and the use of things like digital cameras and iPads and in teaching and learning. Our school has been recognised as a model of excellence in the use of technology in teaching and learning. We believe that a technology rich learning environment is engaging and assists students to achieve better learning outcomes. Our students are provided with opportunities to learn and succeed in their areas of interest including the academics, sport, public speaking, debating and creative and performing arts. Students at our school also have opportunities to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities including active after school sports, excursions and camps. We are also very conscious of our responsibility to teach students about environmental protection and sustainability. This is achieved through student involvement in our environmental initiatives, which includes our vegetable and herb gardens, biodiversity gardens and our recycling, composting and worm farm programs. A unique feature of our school population is our three support classes. The Early Intervention Unit is a pre-school for children with disabilities. We also have one IO support class consisting of ten children with a moderate intellectual disability and one multi-categorical (MC) support class consisting of seven students with similar support needs. This MC support class has been a positive and welcome addition to our school from the commencement of the 2013 school year. Our school also has a supportive parent body and parents are encouraged to play an active role in the education of their children. There are many opportunities for parents to take part in the life of the school both inside and outside school hours. Our school places great importance on the need to provide parents with good, accurate information and feedback about academic progress and social development. At our school we value individual differences and support and cater for the needs of all students.
