Len Metcalf is an internationally collected fine art photographer. He specialises in landscapes, flowers and figures. Naked landscapes are his passion. Len has been taking photographs for as long as he can remember. His father introduced him to a camera whilst they lived in Leura in The Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Len started teaching at 15 years at 1st Sailors Bay Sea Scouts where he became the defacto educator of the troupe. He started teaching knots, and was soon teaching navigation, sailing, abseiling and camping skills. By the time Len finished school he had an addictive passion for three things; adventures outdoors, education and photography. Len started working at Chakola in the Kangaroo Valley to support his way through university and his first degree in visual arts with a major in photography. City Art Institute (is now the Faculty of Fine Arts at NSW University) where Len studied under such fine teachers as George Schwartz, Eardly Lancaster Julie Brown-Rrap and Lynn Roberts Goodwin. Four years later Len graduated with straight distinctions and was awarded the highest award or "Most Outstanding Advanced Colour Photographer". Despite being offered sponsorship for his photography by two corporations, Len chose to follow education and outdoor adventures as a career. Photography became his unbridled passion and his escape from work. Len continued his growth in the education sector. He worked with long list of schools and businesses as an 'experiential educator', utilising the great Australian outdoors as his classroom and a raft of adventure activities as his medium. In this beautiful environment Len taught people how to build stronger communities, healthy business cultures and environmental values. He specialised in teaching leadership and teamwork for a while before settling in to become an expert in teaching the trainers and facilitators. Len's formal education continued and he soon studied and completed a Graduate Diploma in Art EducationWelcome to Len's School one of the popular educators in your Willoughby East area. We endeavour to celebrate each other's uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
