Smart Start Learning Centres offer a school preparation program to children in the year prior to school. Our Aim Our aim is to provide a positive learning experience for your child and encourage a love of learning that will continue throughout their formal schooling. Our program Our school preparation program explores literacy and numeracy through memorable characters, stories and songs. The program promotes a love of learning and the opportunity to develop important early literacy and numeracy skills necessary for school. Our teachers The program is taught by a qualified primary school teacher. Classes Children attend once a week for one hour. Small class sizes allow the teacher to work individually with each child and also foster social skills as children gain confidence and make new friends. Children may commence classes at anytime throughout the term. Program Content The program introduces all of the letter sounds and ensures solid phonemic awareness of the English language. Children are taught to sound out words and develop decoding skills that will assist them in reading. They learn pencil grip, writing posture and are introduced to the correct way to form letters (NSW Foundation Handwriting). Children progress from tracing letters to forming letters independently. The ability to write their names without assistance is an important element at this level. Children learn to recognise, represent and write numbers 1 to 20. They also learn to add single digit numbers. Location & Class Times Smart Start Learning Centres is based in the Sutherland Shire (south of Sydney). Please contact us to discuss the timetable and availability. Fees Classes run in line with New South Wales school terms and equate to $25 per lesson.
